Something occurred to me yesterday when I received an email from a friend re his new online business. he didn't mention Customers!

11. What makes starting a home based business with the Ultimate Team so different?

If you’re reading this article then the chances are you are at least doing something right! How do I know that? Well, as a member of the Ultimate Team I learnt what to do in order to get my business noticed on the Internet, and you, by chance or design have learnt how and where to find quality advice on the Internet!
How I wish, that when I was starting a home based business I first learnt about network / MLM Marketing someone could have introduced me to a concept such as the Ultimate Team. Not only would I now be comfortably retired and very wealthy, I would have missed out on a lot of heart-ache and misery.

Now I appreciate that if you’re new to starting a home based business MLM / Network Marketing, you’ll be wondering “What’s he talking about?”. However if you’ve ‘been through the Mill’ – you’ll understand just what I mean because you too would have dreamed about being involved in an Ultimate Team that never eventuated.

So let me explain my comment and perspective. You see I once was interviewed by a top performer in MLM – I’ll call him ”George” for now. I had answered an ad in the local newspaper and was presenting myself for an interview. It was a good experience because I felt I was about to become a member of his team – an Ultimate Team by the sound of things!

His presentation was professional and as an experienced middle-management executive I was impressed. He talked about making money in a BIG way, expansion into the Asian markets and so on. He even invited me to drink some special, herbal tea (one of the MLM products he represented) saying, ”Here, try this – this is what makes our Ultimate Team business so successful”! Naturally, I tried it. It tasted horrible and I said so!

What happened then was he looked me straight in the eyes- from a distance of about 250mm and said, ”You didn’t hear me correctly; this tea taste’s wonderful; this is what makes our Ultimate Team business so successful”! and went on to tell me that I should drink this tea every day and especially whenever I interview someone for a position in the Ultimate Team.

Now I don’t give in to such ‘brow-beating’ but on this occasion- and because I felt I was in the presence of a MLM ‘Guru’ who knew how to ‘walk-the-walk, talk –the-talk and do the business’, I should take notice, listen –up and get involved .That’s what I did.

It cost me over $6,000 to join – most of which was stock and because I couldn’t afford to be out of pocket that much I embarked on a campaign to sell that stock to get my money back asap. I did this in 35 days and was very pleased with myself.But then I was good at sales anyway. Then I realised, in starting a home based business I had joined this one and the Ultimate Team to emulate the ’Guru’. I should be hiring people like he was and duplicating what he does. So I started going to the training.

I learned a shocking truth at my first training, something that eventually was a major cause to me leaving that business. What I learned was after being signed-up by the ‘Guru’ I was placed in the matrix of the downline – without any discussion- below a woman I didn’t know. Even worse, I was so shocked when I met her and found her manner to be so impolite. It was a complete turn-off for me. I disliked so intensely that I always felt uncomfortable in her presence. So much I thought for starting a home based business and being a part of her team.

I never felt comfortable after that and when I remonstrated – trying to get transferred to a position under the ‘Guru’ who I agreed to join the business with my words fell on deaf ears. I was locked into a business that I didn’t like and I wasn’t being very successful.

Team work, I discovered, meant being in the same room as other business members on Tuesdays, Thursday evenings and Saturdays mornings for sales presentations where people I invited would get to learn about my the business opportunity and hopefully be suitably excited by the ‘hype’ enough to sign-up.

This was a business of working leads , telephone calls, making one-to-one presentations, buying at wholesale – selling at retail , driving my car all over town delivering product to people who often wouldn’t front-up with money when they placed their order with me and many of whom hesitated or pleaded poverty when I finally presented them with the products!

Does this Sound familiar?

Certainly , this was not my idea of an Ultimate Team at work so I decided after 9 months and a lot of wasted time and effort to move on.

Now finally, after 15 years and many other experiences with similar results I’ve found what I and others starting a home based business genuinely believe to be our Ultimate Team.

All this sounds great for anyone working from home - and it is - but allow me put this a bit more into perspective with TWO instances that that I can relate to and make comparisons. FIRST - Through a V*eret*ekk colleague I learnt about an Autorsponder system that had a special 30 days Trial offer for "Just" $99.00 and 100,000 leads. Now get this; * After 30 Days the monthly charge is $195.00 - how many leads involved - 100,000!! #!%^ What I quickly learned was that: * For the Trial I only had 50,000 leads to play with * The autoresponder - loaded with a set of generic emails - didn't really suit the products I wanted to promote ! To change the emails would have cost me about two days work! * The Autoresponder was User – “UN-friendly”! - in fact, after 3 weeks, I still have difficulty in understanding much of it's functions and "Help"text ! * So far as I can see, I have "hooked" only 7 people after 21 days BUT... - I don't know who they are - no information as to which email offer they responded to - I can't single them out for further 'special attention"! After 2 weeks working with the 50,000 leads, I received additional leads - (125 to be exact). "Well", I thought "I wonder how good THESE will be"? (That's right DON’T hold your breath! I started phoning the leads and WITHIN THE FIRST 10 CALLS I WAS TOLD BY 2 PEOPLE THAT THEY HAD NO RECOLLECTION OF EVER HAVING SUBMITTING THEIR DETAILS TO ANYONE !!! As an incomplete exercise this has REMINDED me something I have known for a while - when you buy leads from anywhere - except V*eret*ekk you just don't get anywhere-near the same FRESHNESS, VALUE and QUALITY . For just consider the results of this little exercise: 100,000 leads @ $99.00 = 10 CENTS per lead (That's TEN times the cost of V*eret*ekk leads Strike - rate has been 7 - but I don't know anymore - they could be "Clicks" for all I know. I certainly haven't noticed a significant jump in my earnings this month! So thus far these "7 HITS" have cost me $10.60 each and my frustration and "personal downtime" amounts to 7-8 hours. Worst part is - I CAN'T EVEN DEFINE THESE " HITS" AS LEADS! Now, lets compare that with another 'New" Biz-opp which costs $49.95 per month (again I plan to try for 2-3 months; * So the cost per lead has been - 6 weeks = $74.94 / 1800 (50% bounce-backs) leads = 4 CENTS per lead * There have been 13 sign-ups - at a cost of $5.76 each * Of the 13 sign-ups 2 have become Affiliates - so the cost per Affiliate so far is $$37.44 Against this the Income from sales has been $49.95. - a net loss of $24.99. I'm thinking at the moment that if another sale comes in during the remaining 2 weeks, I may at least "Break-even"! Given the way THIS program is operating (At least 50 % of the emails sent bounce back) I may stick with it a little longer .as the coast per actual lead is tolerable. Well I think that's enough of that - except for one thing, what have the leads from Ve*re*tekk yielded .? Well so far as I can make out (because these leads get spread over a large number and variety of opportunties) I have spent the following: Upgrade on Free FFas.com - Cost $10.00 Less commission on sign-up $5.00 = $5.00 * Number of leads harvested so far - 140,000 so cost per lead is $5.00 / 140,000 = Less than HALF a CENT per lead ! Upgrade on Blastomatic.com Cost $14.95 Less commission on sign-up =$5.00 = $9.95/4 (weeks) =$ 2.48 * Number of leads harvested so far - 60,000 so cost per lead is $2.48 / 60,000 = Less than HALF a CENT each! Total expenditure FREEFFas and Blastomatic (to date) = $ $2.48 + $5.00 = $7.48 Number of leads processed ....................................= 140,000 + 60,000 = 200,000 KNOWN Income .......................................................= $160.00 profit / Loss ............................................................= $160.00 - $7.48 = $152.52 Profit. which is all too common these days and caused me to reflect on why starting a home based business was such a good idea - the price of petrol has just gone up AGAIN!
